HERKIMER: John A. McGowan, 59, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Little Falls Hospital. Born in Little Falls, NY on September 3, 1954, John was the son of the late Berton J. and Alice (Sweet) McGowan. Raised and educated locally, he continued his education receiving an Associate's Degree in Business. John proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1972 to 1992, serving 20 years and 29 days for our country. On January 19, 1991, John was united in marriage to the former Patricia LaVeck. John had worked as a Cardiology Tech II for Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding his lawnmower, loved electronics and loved to play guitar. John was a member of the Life Point Church, NY Mills. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Trish); his daughters, Michelle, Melissa, Breanne and Bethany McGowan; a son, Jason McGowan; a sister, Dawn Ackroyd and husband William; his brothers, Donald McGowan and wife Lisa, David McGowan and wife Roseann, James McGowan and wife Nancy and a beloved grandson, Jonathan Eli McGowan. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws, including a sister-in-law, Christine Hawkins and husband Rick. He also leaves his beloved canines, Maurice and Stacey. He is predeceased by his mother and father and a sister, Alice McGowan. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at 3 PM at The Life Point Church, 74 Whitesboro Street, Yorkville, NY 13502.
