Obituary of Theodore Werenczak

MOHAWK - Theodore "Ted" Werenczak, age 93, of Mason Rd., Mohawk (German Flatts), passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, August 24, 2014, at the Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, Ilion. A lifelong Mohawk Valley resident, Theodore was born on September 17, 1920, and was the eldest son to the late Paul and Mary (Kasperowicz) Werenczak. He was a graduate of Mohawk High School with the Class of 1938, where he majored in music. Ted was wed to the former Lois Hoyle in 1964 and the two shared sixteen years until her untimely passing in 1980. In 1986, he shared in a second marriage to Ellen (Lincoln) Grainger, who also predeceased him in 1999. Ted was a good and loyal husband to each of his wives, and he always held their memory close to his heart. For many years, Ted worked alongside his brother, Ed, on their family dairy farm on Mason Road. After which, Ted went to work as a machinist for Chicago Pneumatic, a position from which he retired. In his spare time, he enjoyed sports, fishing and polka. He was also an accomplished musician who played both the violin and accordion. Theodore lived a good, long life and was a dedicated family man. Helpful and dependable by nature, he was always there for his siblings, nieces and nephews, never missing an important event. He was a faithful parishioner and, at one time, an usher, at the Church of the Annunciation in Ilion. Ted is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Edward J. and Joan Werenczak, of Mohawk; his sister, Pauline Dawley, of Herkimer; nieces and nephews, Edward P. Werenczak and Michael Werenczak and his wife, Denise, all of Mohawk, Cathleen Caringi and her husband, Jeff, of Broadalbin, NY, and Amy Campanella and her husband, Michael, of Florida. He also leaves his great-nieces, great-nephews and a special friend and neighbor, Phil Laubenstein, who Ted enjoyed daily trips to McDonald's with for his favorite french fries. He was predeceased by his sister, Alice Werenczak, and brother-in-law, James Dawley. Ted's funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 30, 2014, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home's newly reopened location at 102 West Street, Ilion, and 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Paul Catena, Pastor. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 30, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. prior to the funeral home service. A very heartfelt thank you is offered to the staff of the Mohawk Valley Health Care Center for their kindness and respect shown to Ted through this last month.
