Obituary of Richard J. Salek

NEWPORT - Mr. Richard J. "Dic" Salek, age 66, of Fishing Rock Road, Newport, NY, passed away at his home on Tuesday September 16, 2014. He died after a valiant battle against cancer. He was born on August 29, 1948 in Little Falls, son of the late Joseph and Jeanette (Starna) Salek and was a graduate of Little Falls High School, "Class of 1968." He was married to Betty Ann Sarvey on May 28, 1982 in Little Falls. He was last employed with New York Power Authority as a mechanic. He was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Little Falls and at one time served as a City of Little Falls Fireman as well as a New York State Corrections Officer. He was currently a member of the Patriot Guard Riders and enjoyed time out on his bike along with hunting and classic cars (and car shows). For many years he had served as a NYS Hunter Safety Instructor. Dic had a fierce love of his family and made friends of strangers through his generosity and outgoing personality. He made family of his friends through his loyalty. He is survived by his wife Betty; children: Angela and husband Salvatore Uricola of Herkimer, his twin sons: Andrew and Michael at home; his God mother Mary Bacher of Little Falls, his "aunt" Harriet Green of Little Falls, his aunt: Eleanor Falzarano of Connecticut; In laws: Bonnie (Sarvey) and husband Darrell Bartkowski of Ohio and their children; Cornelia Sarvey and children; and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his mother and father in law: John & Roberta Sarvey and a brother - in - law John Sarvey. His wife Betty and family have planned his services with The Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 West Monroe Street in Little Falls, under the direction of his friend Harry J. Enea, Jr. and Kevin E. A memorial service will be held on Saturday September 27, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Albany Street in Little Falls with the Rev. Dr. Steven A. Scarcia, Rector, officiating.
