Obituary of JoAnn A. McShane

FRANKFORT: Mrs. JoAnn A. (Seppi) McShane, 78, a lifelong Frankfort resident, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 with the love and support of her husband and son by her side. Born in Frankfort on March 26, 1936, JoAnn was the daughter of the late Paul and Frances (Green) Seppi. She was educated in Frankfort Schools and was a graduate of Frankfort High School. She continued her education by attending Morrisville College and graduated with a degree in Food Service Administration. On April 11, 1959, she married Donald McShane in St. Mary's Church by Father Fuffard; the couple sharing 55 years of love and mutual respect toward each other. A very accomplished woman, JoAnn retired from Mohawk Valley General Hospital and Nursing Home after 25 years of dedicated service as Nutritional Director. She was also employed for several years at St. Luke's and St. Elizabeth's Hospitals along with the Frankfort Public Library. JoAnn was president of the Food Service Directors Association of Oneida and Herkimer Counties and also served as a Frankfort Village Trustee. She was a parishioner at Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Church, Frankfort. As a Red Cross volunteer, JoAnn devoted many hours to tele-recruiting past donors to commit to upcoming blood drives, building rapports with supporters and they would await her phone calls for upcoming blood drives. JoAnn was recognized with the Blood Services Award at the 15th Annual Great Heroes Breakfast for The American Red Cross. She made a commitment to the Red Cross after surgery that left her a double-leg amputee. JoAnn was a woman who dealt with life in a positive manner, even throughout the period of her illness; she has provided her family and friends with an inspiring example of inner strength and extraordinary courage. As a loving and very family oriented individual, JoAnn enjoyed a special bond with her husband, Don; her son Tom and daughter-in-law Elaine, who she loved dearly as a daughter, and was a devoted aunt and friend to many. She took pleasure in painting and enjoyed cooking and baking. A kind, gentle, loving soul who offered her heart and guidance to her loved ones will be missed by all. JoAnn is survived by her husband Don; a son, Thomas and his wife Elaine of Rochester; a sister, Rosemarie Button of Frankfort; special nieces and nephews, Mary Jean and Jody Grippe, Michael and Sue Button, John and Wendy Button, James Button and Geri Button. She is also survived by her in-laws, Jack McShane of Elmira, Sharon Ernenwein of Westmoreland and many other special nieces, nephews and cousins too numerous to name. She was predeceased by her brother, Frank Seppi; sisters, Katherine Beratta, Josephine Perritano, Carm Casullo; and brothers -in-law, Frank (Hottie) Beratta, Frank (Perry) Perritano, Randy Button and Frank Casullo. "I would like to especially thank my loving husband, Don, my son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Elaine for their love and devotion during my illness. A special thank-you to my sister Rosemarie and niece Mary Jean (Button) Grippe for all their help with my care and needs. Thank you to everyone who was especially kind during these tough times. I really appreciated the beautiful cards, visits, flowers, phone calls and gifts." Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be made to The American Red Cross in JoAnn's memory; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The McShane Family would like to extend a special thank you to Kathy Wildey for her patience and compassion in taking care of JoAnn and her family.
