Obituary of Robert T. Volo

HERKIMER: Robert T. "Bob" Volo, 73, a lifelong Herkimer resident, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, NC with the love and support of his wife and daughter by his side. Born in Herkimer on July 13, 1941, Bob was the son of the late Leborio and Virginia (Wojciechowski) Volo. Raised and educated locally, he was a graduate of Herkimer High School Class of 1959. On June 29, 1969, he married the former Patricia A. Morra at St. Anthony's Church, Herkimer; with whom he shared a 45 year union of love and an inseparable devotion. Bob began his career tending bar for the Prospect Hotel, worked for 30 years as a liquor salesman for Eber Bros. and as a bulk mail carrier for the US Postal Service with his wife Patty. Bob was a fine example of an honorable man and a good husband, father and role model to his family. He was looked upon as a "gentle giant" because of his generous, kind and easy going nature. During his leisure time, he loved spending time with his family and friends, carpentry work, watching James Bond "007" movies and Penn State football. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patty; his cherished daughter, Morra Volo of Charlotte, NC; his in-laws, Concetta and James Aiello and Angela and Edward "Ned" Bingham of Herkimer and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Volo. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer, NY (315) 866-1011. His funeral service will commence on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 10:15 a.m. from the chapel of the funeral home where a prayer service will take place, and at 11:00 a.m. from Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, S. Main Street, Herkimer, NY where his Funeral Mass will be offered by Reverend Ronald Matulewicz. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, where he will be laid to rest. Those wishing to express an act of kindness in Bob's memory may do so by making a donation to The Salvation Army, The American Red Cross or Sts. Anthony & Joseph Church; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family is being cared for and guided by Harry J. and Kevin E. Enea, Funeral Directors.
