Obituary of Arthur J. DeLaurier

ILION - Mr. Arthur J. DeLaurier, age 93, a decorated World War II, United States Army Veteran and longtime Ilion resident, passed away with his loving daughter at his side on Monday morning, October 13, 2014 at Faxton - St. Luke's Healthcare in the Town of New Hartford, NY. He was a resident of the Mohawk Valley Healthcare Center for the past year. The family thanks the direct care staff of the healthcare center along with the nurses and staff of St. Luke's Hospital. He was born on January 18, 1921 in Ogdensburg, NY, a son of the late Romeo and Delores (Drewlett) DeLaurier. He was a graduate of Ogdensburg school and attended nursing school. He was married to Helen Marie Scott on February 2, 1946 at Annunciation Church in Ilion. Mrs. DeLaurier died on April 17, 1992. He was a lifetime member of the Ilion Elk's Lodge. He retired in 1983 from Chicago Pneumatic after over 30 years of dedicated workmanship. Art was a devout catholic and a member of the Church of Annunciation in Ilion along with St. James Catholic Church of Gouverneur. Art loved to play cards and garden tomatoes at camp in Gouverneur. He truly enjoyed spending seasonal time (spring, summers, and fall) at camp with all of his neighbors and friends. In his younger years he was an avid tennis player. He is survived by his daughter Joanne Sickler and her husband Larry, Jr. of Ilion; two grandchildren: Cierra Shelby Sickler and Collin James Sickler, a great grandson Parker Brian Reppel, and special cousins the Scott family of Mohawk. He was predeceased by a son John Arthur DeLaurier on April 30, 2000 and a sister: Sr. Mary Arthur, S.A. (Sisters of Atonement) on March 18, 2007. His funeral arrangements have been planned with The Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road (Town of Frankfort) Ilion, NY. Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday October 16th from 2 until 4 PM. The Ilion Elk's will hold ritual at 4PM with funeral service to follow. A graveside burial of cremains with full military honors will take place on Thursday October 23, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Agnes Cemetery, North Ilion.
