Obituary of Nellie C. Wiers

MOHAWK - Nellie C. "Toby" Wiers, 89 of Mohawk, NY died on Friday October 31, 2014 at the Mohawk Valley Healthcare Center in Ilion, NY. She received great care at the Healthcare Center of which the family is appreciative, especially mentioning the 2nd floor staff. She was born in Worcester, NY on June 19, 1925, daughter of the late Clifford and Clara (Hoyt) Bailey. She grew up in Worcester and attended schools there. She was married to Frederick W. "Fred" Wiers on March 19, 1949 at the Methodist Church in Canajoharie. The couple successfully operated for many years what was formerly known as Lovier's Dairy and later as the Mohawk Dairy Store / Diner. Toby also catered events with her friend Diane Cherry. They would do this thru the Herkimer VFW and the Mohawk Diner. Toby also enjoyed bowling, playing Yahtzee and word puzzle books. She enjoyed travelling to the 1000 Islands as well. Earlier in her career she had worked with Beechnut. She was of the Methodist faith. She was a 66 year member of the Mohawk American Legion Auxiliary and a former member of the Herkimer VFW Auxiliary. Her loving family includes her children Sherrilyn Wiers - Brown and her husband Kevin of Mohawk, Lorraine Wiers of Penitas, Texas, and Thomas Wiers and his wife Barbara of Mohawk; grandchildren Lauren Brown, Ethan Brown and Katelyn Rhymestine, sisters - in - law: Irene Wiers and Barbara Wiers and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Fred on August 4, 2001, her sister Winifred Bentley and her husband Granville, and several In-Laws. Her funeral arrangements are with The Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, (Town of Frankfort), Ilion, NY, Funeral Directors Harry & Kevin Enea (315) 894-8000. Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday November 5, 2014 from 3 until 6:30 PM. The Mohawk American Legion Ladies Auxiliary are invited to pay their respects at 6 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. A funeral service will take place Wednesday at the conclusion of calling hours (6:30 PM) with Rev. Robert Wollaber officiating. The family will hold a graveside service Thursday morning November 6th at 10:00 AM at the Mohawk Cemetery (John street entrance) Village of Mohawk.
