Obituary of Lawrence M King

SCHUYLER - Lawrence "Larry" M. King, age 79, of Schuyler, formerly of Utica and Oneida, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 3, 2014, at the Masonic Care Community, Utica, after a courageous seven year battle with metastatic colon cancer. He was born on October 24, 1935, in Madison, NY, the son of Albert and Mable (Brown) King, and attended Poland Central School. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the US Marine Corps. On November 23, 1966, he was married to Eva (Rapavi) Gonyea in Schuyler. Larry was employed as a lathe operator (turning handles) at Union Fork & Hoe Co., for thirty years, retiring in 1997. He later worked at Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Homes for several years. He was an active member and usher at St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church in North Utica for many years. He was also active in Healing Masses in many other local Catholic Churches and acted as a catcher. Larry received several fire training certificates as part of the NYS Standardized Fire Training Program and was a volunteer fireman for the W. Schuyler Fire Dept. for several years. Surviving family members include his wife, Eva; his son, David King, of Schuyler; daughters and sons-in-law, Laurie and Jim White, of Rome, Judy and Don Applegate, of Ilion, Pauline Bunce, of Schuyler, Gerry and Dick Elthorp, of Frankfort, and Mary and David Allen, of Arlington, VA; his grandchildren, Diane, Kaylee, Jonathan and Tim King, Brent and Andrew Santy, Kimberly and Jordan White, Timothy, Michael and Matthew Allen, Patti Ann Kimball, Tina Higgins, Robin Juliano, Mark Cook, Jay Applegate, Justin Applegate, Suzette Applegate Baker, and John Cook; great-grandchildren, Michael and Zachary Mahl, Samantha Kimball, Jesse James LeClair, Alana, Jayden Andrew and Eli Jaxson Santy, Serenity McSweeney, Daniel Briggs, James and Christopher Doolen, Trinity Elyse Cook, Luke, Rachel and Marissa Baker, and Nick, David and Nathaniel Cook; great-great-grandchildren, Kayden James Doolen and Adrian Doolen; his sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Tom Shumway, of Cold Brook, NY; his brother and sister-in-law, Darwin and Pat King, of Clinton; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Carl. Funeral services will be held 9:00 a.m., Thursday, November 6, 2014, at St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church, 440 Keyes Rd., North Utica, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Mark Pasik, Pastor. Interment will be in the family plot at North Columbia Cemetery, Town of Columbia, NY. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home's newly reopened location at 102 West St., Ilion, NY. The family especially wishes to thank Dr. Butala for his excellent care and kindness that he gave to Larry during his seven year battle with colon cancer. The family also wishes to thank Sandy and Dr. Butala's staffs at the Herkimer and Utica offices and the staff at the Westchester and Manhattan Households at the Masonic Care Community for their care, compassion and kindness towards Larry.
