Obituary of Laura Marhaver

ILION - Laura Katherine "Katie" Marhaver, age 90, of W. North St., Ilion, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 17, 2014. She was born on November 29, 1923, in Middleville, the daughter of Roy and Laura K. (Chellis) Molineux, and graduated from West Winfield Central School in 1941. On September 29, 1951, she was united in marriage to Edward "Ned" A. Marhaver and enjoyed a blessed union of forty-three years until his passing on March 21, 1995. At the age of seventeen, she moved to Ilion and found work at Horton's Drug Store & Soda Fountain. She continued to work in the pharmacy as the store evolved to Lennox Brothers Pharmacy where she retired in 1993. Mrs. Marhaver was a member of the Church of the Annunciation and Mohawk Valley General Hospital Guild and worked on the Board of Elections for many years. Katie was an active member of the Ilion Garden Club for many years and was a recipient of many awards. She enjoyed gardening, flower arranging and participating in flower shows. Katie had many good times with her husband "Ned" and close friends at the Ilion Elks Lodge and Pleasant Lake. Surviving family members include her four sons, Carl Marhaver and his wife, Robin, of Amelia Island, FL, Brian Marhaver and his wife, Katie Drake Marhaver, of Little Falls, David Marhaver and his wife, Lynne, of Ilion, and Robert Marhaver and Tami Johnson, of Ilion; her daughter, Joanne Smith, of Herkimer; beloved grandchildren, Brianne and Cory Smith, Megan and Allen Marhaver, Katie and Emily Marhaver, Casey, Erin and Paige McGraw, Kristen and Kelly Marhaver and their mother, Jill Marhaver; her sister, Martha Armstrong, of Camden; her brother, Thomas Molineux, of Englewood, FL; and her niece, Beverly Ames and her husband, Skip, of Ilion. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, David A. Smith; her sisters, Emily Schieferstine, Ruth Salisbury, Esther Drabo and Polly Young; and her brother, Frank Molineux. Funeral services will be held 9:00 a.m., Friday, November 21, 2014, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home's newly reopened location at 102 West St., Ilion, and 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Ned's cousin, Father John Waldron. Interment will be in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion, next to her husband, Ned. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home at 102 West St., Ilion.
