Obituary of Helena Winkelman

ST. JOHNSVILLE - Mrs. Helena Winkelman, age 100, a longtime resident of Center Street in St. Johnsville, NY passed away on Sunday morning, December 7, 2014 surrounded by love from her family members and the compassionate caregivers from St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born on January 9, 1914 in Amsterdam, NY, a daughter of the late George and Teofilia Mulick. She attended St. Mary's Academy in Little Falls. She had been a St. Johnsville area resident for over 65 years. Her marriage to Peter Bernard Winkelman took place at Sacred Heart Church in Little Falls. The ceremony was performed by Father Peter Winkelman. Helena worked in our area for many years as a waitress, namely at Beardslee Manor in Little Falls and at Elm Tree Hall in Fort Plain. She was of the Roman Catholic faith and was a member of the Rosary Society of St. Patrick's Church in St. Johnsville. Helena was created with a beautiful purpose, with a smile that warmed, with words that encouraged, and a heart that loved and gave so freely to others. These words are heartfelt by her beloved family including her children, Peter Winkelman and his wife Robin of Rotterdam, NY, Bernadette Peet and her husband William of St. Johnsville, Janet Campbell and her husband Claude of Herkimer, a brother-in-law, Edward Mlinar, a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Winkelman, numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many special friends. She was predeceased by her husband Peter Bernard Winkelman in 1985, two brothers, Michael and Joseph Mulick and four sisters Josephine Mlinar, Mary Sheehan, Mary Mulick and Bernice Wallach. The funeral service will be on Saturday December 13th, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph's Church, North Helmer Ave., Dolgeville, New York where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Quy Vo. Burial will take place in St. Bridget's Cemetery in Salisbury in the spring of 2015, where she will be laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Margaret Reaney Library @ 19 Kingsbury Avenue, St. Johnsville, NY 13452. Envelopes will be available.
