Obituary of Marion Cristman

HERKIMER - Marion Elizabeth (Wengert) Cristman, a lifelong Herkimer resident, entered into eternal rest on December 8, 2014 at The Leo Center For Caring of St. Ann's Community Hospice in Rochester. She was born in Averill Park, New York on January 30, 1930, the daughter of William and Mary (Traut) Wengert. In 1936 Marion moved with her family to East Herkimer, where she attended Herkimer Central Schools, graduating with the Class of 1947. She was united in marriage to Dean A. Cristman on August 1, 1953. Marion and Dean recently celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage until his passing on March 29, 2014. Marion was employed by the New York Telephone Company beside her sister Doris as an original "number please?" plug operator in the "Townsend 6" exchange. After the arrival of her three adored children, Marion was first and foremost a selfless, loving, devoted mother and grandmother, a dutiful homemaker, wonderful cook, and caregiver for her family. In more recent years, she was a skillful craftsperson, making countless creations beside her loving husband Dean, for craft fairs throughout the region. Marion's happiest times were spent with family. The love she shared with us will remain in our hearts forever. She is survived by her two sons, Dean W. Cristman and wife Barbara of Ilion, and Timothy J. Cristman and wife Elizabeth of Seattle, Washington; a daughter Laurie A. Walsh and husband Darrell of Macedon, NY. Mrs. Cristman was blessed with nine grandchildren, Jason Cristman, Jennifer (Dean) Maggiolino, Brian Cristman, Kimberly (Ryan) Blow, Jessie Cristman, Mary (Sean) Boland, Heather Walsh, Christine Walsh, Carolyn Walsh and three great grandchildren, Alexis Maggiolino, and Lauren and Emily Blow. She is also survived by her sister, Doris W. Ray of East Herkimer, and by sister-in-law Beverly Cristman, along with several nieces and nephews. Marion leaves her faithful dogs, Linus and Lucy who helped her cope through many difficult days after Dean's passing. Besides her husband Dean, she was pre-deceased by a sister, Helen Henkel. Funeral services for Marion will be held on Thursday December 11th, 2014 at 4:00 PM at The Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street in Herkimer under the direction of Harry J. & Kevin E.
