ILION - Mrs. Barbara Ann Carpenter, age 83, passed away surrounded with love on Monday morning December 29th, 2014 in Ilion, NY. She had been a resident of the Mohawk Valley Health Care Center since 2009. Barbara was born December 22, 1931, daughter to Carl and Esther (Dilker) Basler, previously of Mohawk, and sister to Richard Basler, currently of Ilion. She graduated from Mohawk Central School in 1949 and attended Union School of Nursing in Albany, NY. Upon graduation, she worked as a Registered Nurse at Albany Medical Center. Barbara was loyal to both her alma maters and extremely proud of her nurse's cap along with her profession. She was an avid fan of the New York Knicks basketball team. Barbara met John H. Carpenter while working in Albany; they married in 1960 and she gained an instant family of three adult stepsons and their families. She and John were parents to three girls and resided in Slingerlands, NY until returning to her home in the Mohawk Valley in 1973, just prior to John's death on December 27, 1973. Barbara was predeceased by her beloved parents, husband, and daughter, Andrea M. Carpenter. She is survived by her brother, Richard Basler; daughter Karen Carpenter - Mulligan and husband Frederick Mulligan; daughter Cheryl Jackson; as well as many grandchildren, great - grandchildren, nieces, nephews and special friends. Barbara made certain to ask that all staff at Mohawk Valley Health Care Center be told she thanks them for everything and loves them. Barbara's family also wishes to thank the staff for the care, friendship and love they showed during her years as a resident, as well as the care and concern they showed both Barb and her family during these difficult weeks. Barbara was a kind-hearted and generous woman, with an ability to forgive like no other. She has lived such a wonderful life, loved everybody, and was just so very thankful and appreciative of her family. Her motherly instincts were admired and felt and very deeply appreciated. She will be immensely missed by so many. Her funeral arrangements are with The Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road (Town of Frankfort), Ilion, NY under the direction of Funeral Directors Harry J. & Kevin E. Enea (315) 894-8000. Calling hours at the funeral home will be on Saturday afternoon January 3rd, 2015 from 2 until 4 PM. The funeral service will begin at 4 PM at the funeral home chapel with Pastor Christopher Schumske of the Oak Ridge Free Methodist Church of Herkimer officiating.
