Obituary of George A. Bormann

HERKIMER-ILION - George A. Bormann, age 72, of Eastern Gardens, 229 Harter St., Herkimer, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 2, 2015, at Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, Ilion, with his family by his side. He was born on January 1, 1943, in Rome, the son of Lynn and Bertha Loretta (Neidhart) Bormann, and attended Herkimer schools. George was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict serving in the US Marine Corp. He was married to Florence Mason, in Herkimer. At one time, George was employed as a taxi driver for Yellow Cab, Utica. Surviving family members include his wife, Florence; his children, George Bormann, Jr., of Malone, Loretta Cass, of Ilion, Pamela Bormann, of Ilion, John Gokey, of Mohawk, Eric Bormann and his wife, Tiffany, of Arizona, and Kimberly Vargas and her husband, Joel, of Gouverneur, NY; twenty-two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Iris Whaley and her husband, Keith "Wally", of Florida, and Mary Lou Hoke, of Rome, NY; two brothers, Charles Lowell, of Little Falls, and Albert Lowell, of E. Herkimer; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Lynn Bormann, Jr.; and his grandson, Jason Bormann. Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer. The Bormann family has entrusted all George's arrangements and supervision to their family Funeral Director, Don Applegate, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home's newly reopened home at 102 West St., Ilion.
