Obituary of Jennie M. Szarejko

HERKIMER - Mrs. Jennie M. Szarejko, 83, passed away on Saturday morning January 10, 2015 at Faxton - St. Luke's Healthcare, town of New Hartford, NY. Her loving daughter was at her side and Jennie fought very hard to the end; a noble battle with pancreatic cancer. The 6th floor staff of the hospital were truly angel's to Jennie and her family along with Dr. Sultana Razia who was caring and considerate during this difficult time. She was born on July 13, 1931 in Herkimer, a daughter of the late John and Sophie (Stepajtis) Jwaszkiewicz. She was educated in Herkimer schools. Her marriage to Andrew W. Szarejko took place May 14, 1955 at St. Joseph's Church in Herkimer, a loving union of nearly 46 years until the passing of Mr. Szarejko on April 25, 2001. She worked for 35 years with Hummel's Office Plus of Herkimer in accounts receivable. Her family also fondly reflects back on her previous employment with Standard Furniture and Kirby Office Equipment. She was a communicant of the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph. A few months ago, (particularly October 31st until November 2nd), Jennie's grandchildren were with her in the comfortable setting of her home. This very special time gave Jennie the ability to see and be with them one last time. This was a poignant time for her to reflect upon them the importance of just how much they were loved from the day they were born until the day she died. She is survived by her loving family, children Mark J. Szarejko and his wife Donna of Palm Harbor, Florida, and Eileen B. Schack and her husband Bob of Herkimer, five beloved grandchildren Andrea Schack, Ashley Schack and her fiancée Chad Harris, Andrew Szarejko, Cassandra Szarejko, and Serena Szarejko and two beloved great-grandchildren Sean and Maliyah, very special nieces that she treated as if her own children, Patty Zaccari, Charlotte Tatta, and Elaine Rajca, her In - Laws, Agnes Szarejko, Millie Jwaskiewicz, and Charlotte Szarejko, and many additional relatives and friends and her lifelong friend Irene Czuryla. She was predeceased by her sister Helen Rajca, her brother Joseph Jwaszkiewicz, a niece Loretta McCarthy and In-Laws Deacon Walter Szarejko and Joseph Szarejko. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday January 13th, 2014 at 8:30 AM from The Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street in Herkimer where prayer and reflection will be offered and at 9:00 AM at the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph, South Main Street in Herkimer where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by Father Quy Vo. Spring interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Herkimer where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband Andrew.
