Obituary of Ernest J. Massari

ST. JOHNSVILLE - Mr. Ernest J. Massari, age 94, World War II Veteran, died Friday January 16th, 2015 in Herkimer, NY (Folts Homes). He was born February 16, 1920 in the Town of Minden, New York to Antonio and Angelina Massari (Sausto), the youngest of nine children. He graduated from St. Johnsville high school. After high school he enlisted in the US army, received an appointment to the US Army Military Academy at West Point in 1941 and graduated in the class of 1945 with the rank of 2nd Lt. He served as a counter Intelligence officer stateside and in Japan and Korea. He retired from active duty in November 1950 as 1st Lt. He was awarded the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal and the World War II Victory medal. After his service he worked in Wall Street in New York City for The McClatchy Company until his retirement in November 1984. His interests included playing contract Bridge and Classical music. He is predeceased by his parents and seven sisters; Teresian Massari, Mary Fiacco (John), Lillian Giarrusso (Michael), Helen DeAngelis (Anthony), Emma Beck (George), Clara Luft (Raymond), and Agnes Richard; and brother, Chester Massari (Ida). He is survived by many nieces and nephews. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 30, 2015, at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Community Church, 115 Reid Street, Fort Plain, New York. Following the Mass, there will be a procession to St. Johnsville Cemetery where interment with full military honors will take place. Donations in his name may be made to Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Community, 119 Reid Street, Fort Plain, New York.
