Obituary of Vivian A. Lenarcic

HERKIMER - Mrs. Vivian A. (VanSlyke) Lenarcic, age 98, went to meet her maker on Sunday, February 15, 2015. Born on June 5, 1916 in Mindenville, N.Y., the daughter of Frank and Catherine (Smith) VanSlyke., she grew up and attended schools in Little Falls. Vivian married Ray Lenarcic on May 13, 1939 at St. Mary's Church in Little Falls with Father Edmund A. O'Connor officiating. She was employed at one time by Fibers and Burrows Paper Mill in Little Falls, retiring in 1974. She was a long time congregant of that city's First Baptist Church and belonged to its Ladies Aid Society. She was a Brownie and Cub Scout leader, treasurer of the Church Street Elementary School PTA, enjoyed bowling, pinochle, crocheting and reading. Vivian was a talented artist and incredible cook. Her effervescent personality endeared her to family and friends. Nana's love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren was as deep and abiding as theirs was for her. A dog lover her entire life, none was more special than a red Dobie named Rudy. Her generosity was exemplified by her "V-Dog Charities," which benefited numerous golf tournaments and the Herkimer County Hunger Coalition. Surviving family members include a son, Raymond James Lenarcic and his wife Kay of East Herkimer; a daughter, Diane King of Newport; five grandchildren, Carrie Firestone and her husband Michael of Avon, Connecticut, Jennifer Snyder and her husband Tim of New Hartford, David Myszkowski and his wife Kelly of Little Falls, William King and his wife Lynn of Newport, and Lori Bascome and her husband Harry of New Hartford; great grandchildren, Devin, Lindsay, Andrew, Emily, Lauren, Lincoln, Jackson, Matthew, Katie and Emily; and a whole slew of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews. Vivian was predeceased by her husband Ray (June 3, 1991); her parents; nine brothers and three sisters; her in-laws, Louis and Mary Lenarcic; and her son - in - law, Ted King. Her funeral and calling hours will be held in the spring of 2015 in Herkimer, NY where a service will be celebrated at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street. Spring burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer, where she will be laid to rest. Friends and relatives will have ample notification prior to the service times that will be set.
