Obituary of Peter H Moynihan

LITTLE FALLS - Mr. Peter H. Moynihan, age 94, a lifelong resident of Little Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, February 18th, 2015 at Alpine Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Little Falls. The family would like to acknowledge the outstanding care offered to Peter during his stay at the Alpine facility. The nurses, doctors, and staff were excellent. Peter was born on October 15th, 1920 in Little Falls, a son of the late Peter J. & Elizabeth (Shanahan) Moynihan and was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy. He went on to attend Aviation Aircraft Sheet Metal and Riveting School in Plattsburgh, NY. His enlistment in the United States Navy occurred during World War II, on August 12th, 1942 and he served our country throughout the Atlantic and the Pacific. He had served on destroyers and landing ship transports (LST), and his campaigns were inclusive to the European African, American Theatre, Asiatic Pacific and the Philippine Liberation. His honorable discharge as a Gunners Mate, 2nd Class occurred on December 17th, 1945. On January 5th, 1946, Peter joined hands in marriage to the love of his life, the former Frances Ferjanec at St. Mary's Parish House in Little Falls with the Reverend William D. Noonan officiating. The couple recently shared in their 69th wedding anniversary together. Peter truly loved the community of Little Falls and was a member of the Holy Family Parish. He was active and had served as a committeeman of the former Boy Scout Troop 51, as well as a member of the National AARP and the Little Falls Chapter # 4367 of which he had served as vice - president for one year. Peter was employed at the Cherry Burrell Corporation in Little Falls for over forty years as a grinder / polisher. At one time he had served as President of the Cherry Burrell Independent Union; a position of which he held for twelve years. He is survived by his beloved wife, Frances, his son, Dr. Gary P. Moynihan and his wife Eleanor of Northport, Alabama, two grandchildren, Andrew Moynihan of Santa Clara, CA, and Keith Moynihan of St. Louis, MO, his godchild, Cindy Grebas, several nieces, nephews, and In - Laws, Virginia Ferjanec of South Carolina, and Frank & Elvira Ferjanec of Nevada. He was predeceased by one sister, Gertrude Sabin on November 21, 1995, and three brothers, John Moynihan on February 15th, 1975, Dr. Robert Moynihan on January 7th, 1979, and Bernard Moynihan on August 25th, 1996. His funeral arrangements are with The Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 West Monroe Street in Little Falls, N.Y. under the direction of Harry J. Enea, Jr. and Kevin E. Enea Funeral Directors. (315) 823-2424. There will be calling hours at the funeral home (Sunday Feb. 22nd) from 5 until 7 PM. Funeral services will be held on Monday February 23rd, 2015 at 10:30 AM from The Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 West Monroe Street in Little Falls, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at the Holy Family Parish Church, corner of East Main & John Streets, Little Falls at 11:00 AM with Rev. Terence Healy, officiating, assisted by Deacon Joseph DeLorenzo. Interment will take place with full military honors later this spring at Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Little Falls. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Peter Moynihan be considered to the Holy Family Parish. Envelopes are available at the funeral home for this purpose.
