Obituary of Nick Fazio

DOLGEVILLE - Nick Fazio, age 100 passed away Saturday February 21, 2015 at St. Luke's Hospital in New Harford. He was born in the village of Feroleto Antico, Calabria, Italy. He was the youngest child of Emilia Rosa Maria Donato and Francesco Fazio. At age twelve he came to America traveling alone and was reunited with his mother and siblings who arrived earlier. The family lived in Dolgeville New York where Nick attended school. After attending school Nick worked at a variety of manufacturing jobs in the Mohawk Valley. On June 20, 1937 he married the love of his life Helen Minicozzi. The couple shared in a blessed union of over 63 years until the passing of Mrs. Fazio on August 1, 2000. For many years Nick operated the Mobil Service Station in the village of Dolgeville. He was a member of the Alfred Dolge Volunteer Fire Department and was instrumental in organizing the Volunteer Ambulance Corp. After retiring Nick and Helen moved to Old Forge and wintered in Florida for many years. In 2009 Nick returned to Dolgeville and resided at Park Side Court until moving to the Masonic Care Community in March of 2014. Survivors include two sons, Larry Fazio, his wife Betty Miller-Fazio, their son Larry Fazio and his wife Krisztina, Nicholas Fazio and his wife Theresa Connor-Fazio, their daughter Lisa and her husband Scott, their children Stephanie Brown, Hannah Louis, Caitlin and Aidan Ferguson and their son Nicholas R. Fazio and his wife Emily Lopez-Fazio and their daughter Emma Nicole. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Nick was predeceased by his wife Helen, and brothers Vincent and Joseph and a sister Diana. Nick was young at heart and made life-long friends everywhere he went. He gave us many examples of how to live life to its fullest. He worked hard, played hard and was never afraid to tackle a problem or to learn something new. He never hesitated to provide a helping hand for anyone in need. He will be greatly missed and has left us countless precious memories. The family would like to thank to Dr. Ulahannan and the entire staff at the Masonic Care Community for the excellent care they provided.
