Obituary of Bruce F. Failing

FORT PLAIN - Mr. Bruce Frederic Failing, age 77, a native of Freys Bush, passed away embraced with constant love and support on Tuesday morning, February 24th, 2015 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown. Bruce dedicated himself to our community as a New York State Trooper, a Fort Plain Police Officer, and worked with the Herkimer County Sherriff's Department. He was born on May 7th, 1937 in Nelliston, NY a son of the late Raymond R. & Lula D. (Dunckel) Failing. Bruce was a graduate of Fort Plain High School, 'Class of 1955.' He went on to serve our country with the National Guard, namely working clerical duty and with the military police. He did this from 1957 until 1961. Bruce loved the state of New York and took great interest to protect and serve. He formed family liked bonds with the New York State Troopers. He served in Mayfield, Troop F at one time, and from 1966 until 1984 he worked out of the Troop T barracks, Schuyler, NY. For five years he had worked with the Fort Plain Police Department and also worked with the Herkimer County Sherriff's Department. Bruce was of the Methodist faith. For over ten years he was the Herkimer High School Girls Softball Coach. He loved to work on cars and did so at a small garage in Fort Plain. He enjoyed the races and race cars in general. He loved football, basketball, and was an excellent word worker; he was a finished carpenter. He was an avid fan of the New York Mets and was particularly happy when camping, fishing, and snowmobiling; he had a true love of the great outdoors. He is survived by his two daughters, Michelle M. Brown and her husband Les of Fort Plain, and Christine Anderson and her husband Ben of Saratoga, NY, his grandchildren, Connor Anderson and Tristan Anderson of Saratoga and Quinnlan Brown of Fort Plain, and a special niece and nephew Kathy Crespy and Greg Failing and family all of San Angelo, Texas. He was predeceased by a brother Donald R. Failing, and his very special and constant canine companion, Riley. Funeral services will be held on Saturday MARCH 7th, 2015 at 10:00 AM at The Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center Street in St. Johnsville, NY with The Reverend Betsy Jay, Pastoral Care Coordinator of Bassett, Cooperstown, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to calling hours on Friday MARCH 6th at the funeral home from 5 until 8 PM. Spring interment will take place at Freys Bush Cemetery. After he was retired, Bruce always considered himself a Trooper. Honor guards will be present for the calling hours and funeral services. Immediately following the funeral home service on Saturday morning, MARCH 7th, the family invites all to the St. Johnsville Masonic Lodge. The family extends a very special thank you to the medical staff at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown especially mentioning the third floor for their helping and care. They also went above and beyond to help Michelle "keep her promise." To those friends who called Bruce toward the end, this means more then you could ever imagine. And a final special thanks to all of Bruce's brothers and sisters in Gray. His heart was always with you.
