Obituary of Charlotte E. Day

ILION - Charlotte E. Day, long time Ilion resident, passed away March 11, 2015, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. Charlotte was born January 22, 1928, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, daughter of Arnold T. and Nora (White) Edwards. She was raised in Chadwicks, was a graduate of Chadwicks High School and St. Elizabeth School of Nursing "Class of 1950". Charlotte was a licensed Registered Nurse for many years, working in Utica, Schenectady and Ilion. She later joined her husband, Jack, as bookkeeper at Day and Day Insurance Agency in Ilion. Charlotte was united in marriage to John J. "Jack" Day on July 18, 1953, at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Chadwicks, a blessed union of 40 years until Jack's passing on June 21, 1993. She was a parishioner at the Church of Annunciation, a member of the K of C Ladies Auxillary and the St. Elizabeth Hospital Alumni Assoc. Charlotte was an avid sports fan, often seen at various high school sporting events, and was a Syracuse University Football and Basketball fan. Her family was her life, and we will always carry her memory in our hearts. She will be dearly missed by her family and by all who she has touched. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, John and Jolene Day, Greg and Mary Day, and Tim and Pattie Day, and one daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Larry DelGrego, all of the Mohawk Valley; 15 grandchildren and spouses; and 12 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Glenn Rieben, of Florida; one sister-in-law, Gertrude Edwards, of New York Mills; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack; three brothers, Robert, Billy and Stuart Edwards; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Marion Edwards, Dorothy and William Zweifel and Shirley Rieben; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Roy and Blanche Day, Vivian and Charles Schierholtz, Marion Cooper and Bob and Anne Day; one daughter-in-law, Nancy Day; and many extended family members. Family and friends are invited to visitation Sunday, March 15th, from 2-5PM at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 AM at the Church of the Annunciation, West St., Ilion, with Pastor Paul Catena officiating. Interment in Armory Hill Cemetery will take place at a later date. In lieu of floral offerings, please consider memorial contributions in Charlotte's name to the Ilion Ambulance Fund or the Church of the Annunciation. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home. A special thanks to the Ilion Fire Dept. Ambulance personnel , Father Paul Catena, and St. Elizabeth ER and ICU staff.
