ILION - Florence G. Monroe, age 98, of W. Montgomery St., Ilion, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2015, at Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, Ilion. She was born on September 21, 1916, in the Town of Schuyler, NY, and attended Schuyler schools. On September 1, 1950, she was married to Claude D. Monroe, in Ilion. He died on November 11, 1987. Florence worked at Allegro Shoe Co., in Little Falls, and Sterling Mill, in Ilion. Later she was employed at Sperry-Rand Univac for twenty-three years, retiring in 1963. Surviving family members include her sister, Mildred Gay, of Newport, NY; her special nephew, Frankie Crossett, with whom she resided in Ilion; her special niece, Shirley Jackson, of Little Falls; and several other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Clarence and Lloyd Evans; and her sister, Mabel Crossett. Funeral services will be held 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home's newly reopened home at 102 West St., Ilion, with Rev. Robert Wollaber, Pastor of the Morning Star United Methodist Church, officiating. Spring interment will be in E. Schuyler Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday, March 17, 2015, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. prior to the funeral home service at 102 West St., Ilion.
