Obituary of Catherine T. Makohen

HERKIMER - Mrs. Catherine T. (Salerno) Makohen, age 90, of Herkimer, NY passed away on Tuesday morning March 17, 2015, at home. She was born in Herkimer, NY, on December 22, 1924 the daughter of the late Dominick and Angelina (Donato) Salerno and was educated in schools there. Her marriage to John Makohen took place on May 10, 1947 at St. Anthony's Church in Herkimer. Mr. Makohen passed away on April 10, 1975 after 28 years of marriage. Catherine last worked with Mohawk Data Sciences in East Herkimer. She was a communicant of the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph in Herkimer. Catherine was a dedicated matriarch to her family. Her children survive, Annette Deyle and Ken Kudrewicz of Ilion, and John "Muck" Makohen of Manhatten, as well as her granddaughter Andrea Toher and her husband Christopher and their children (Great-Grandchildren), Brady & Natalie, a brother John Salerno and his wife Helen of Deerfield, a sister, Joanne "Jennie" Hurley of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Margaret Overracker, and her daughter, Sheila Makohen on December 9, 2014 Her funeral arrangements are with The Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street in Herkimer, NY. Funeral Directors Harry J. & Kevin E. Enea (315) 866-1011. Calling hours at the funeral home will be on Friday evening March 20, 2015 from 5 until 7 PM. Her funeral service will be held Saturday March 21, 2015 at 8:30 AM at the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 9:00 AM from the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph, South Main Street Herkimer where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Quy Vo, Pastor, assisted by Father Anthony Ligato, con-celebrant. Spring interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. Those wishing to remember Catherine in a special way are asked to consider a donation to Hospice & Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Rd, New Hartford, NY 13413. Envelopes are available at The Enea Family Funeral Home for this purpose. The family is grateful for the exceptional care received from Hospice.
