Obituary of Leona Irene Becker

FORT PLAIN - Mrs. Leona Irene (Swartz) Becker, age 94, passed away Wednesday April 8, 2015 at Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, Ilion, with her family by her side. A lifelong resident of the Fort Plain / St. Johnsville area, Leona was born in Fort Plain on August 8, 1920, a daughter of the late William and Emma (Lord) Swartz. She was a graduate of Fort Plain High School, 'Class of 1937.' On December 24, 1937 she was united in marriage to Robert J. Becker, a union that lasted for 57 years until his death on April 7, 1995. Leona, along with her husband and son owned and operated Mother Creek Farm in Fort Plain. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great - grandmother, who enjoyed music, dancing, and spending time with her family. Leona is survived by two children, Phil Becker and wife Judy of Johnstown, NY, and Judith Staffo and her husband Vincent of Ilion, NY, three grandchildren and their spouses, Susan Fredericks and husband Noel of Schenectady, NY, Steven Staffo and wife Jean of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Kathy Farmer and husband Timothy of Benton, Arkansas, three step - grandchildren, Staci, Steven, and Stephanie, six great - grandchildren, Ava Fredericks, Emily Fredericks, Michael Staffo, Emily Staffo, Taylor Farmer, and Connor Farmer, and seven step great - grandchildren, Trevor, Brooke, Robby Ray, Brady, Bailey, McKenzie, and Nathen. She is also survived by one brother - in - law, Alfred Florian, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her husband and parents, Leona was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond Swartz and Roger Swartz, a sister, Alberta Maaser and her husband, Karl, a sister - in - law, Ursula Taylor and her husband Frank, and a brother - in - law, Manfried Florian and his wife Nancy. Funeral services will be held on Sunday April 12, 2015 at 12:30 p.m. from The Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center Street in St. Johnsville, NY, with Pastor Nancy Ryan, officiating. Interment will follow in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband Robert. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Sunday prior to the funeral service from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Memorial contributions in her memory are asked to be considered to the St. Johnsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
