Obituary of Robert W McDonough

LITTLE FALLS: Robert W. (Mac) McDonough, 83, a longtime Little Falls resident, passed away unexpectedly, in the comfort of his home, with his wife at his side, on Tuesday, April 28, 2015. Born in Astoria, NY on February 16, 1932, Mac was the son of the late Patrick and Helen (Cloonan) McDonough. Raised and educated in Astoria, he was a graduate of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel High School and continued his education receiving an Associate's Degree from I.B.E.W. Local 3. Mac honorably served his country with the United States Air Force from 1950-1954. On July 3, 1954 he married the former Carol R. Regan in Bartlesville, OK with whom he shared an inseparable devotion during their 60 years of marriage. Mac was an electrician by trade and worked for Arc Electric of New York, NY, retiring after 34 years of service. He loved conversation, was a great story teller and was known to have "a gift to gab". He took great pride in his home in Little Falls and wintered with his wife in Florida where they enjoyed the warm weather. In his leisure time, he enjoyed watching basketball and was an avid LeBron James fan. In retrospect, Mac's life was all about family, and he was blessed with a beautiful spirit that generated his good will to everyone in his life. He had a strong faith in God and was a member of The Catholic Community of Holy Family Parish in Little Falls and St. Pius X Catholic Church, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, servicing as a Eucharistic minister for both parishes and a member of the choir at St. Pius. He was also a member of the Little Falls Elks Lodge and the American Legion Post 177 of Old Bridge, NJ. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol; his son, Bob and wife Christol of Howell, NJ; his daughter, Carol Ann McDonough of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; his cherished grandchildren, Christa and Dave Porta, Chris McDonough, Jr., Heather McDonough and a great- grandson, Parker Porta. He is also survived by a brother, David McDonough of Cape Coral, FL; a sister-in-law, Marion Regan of Little Falls and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mac is now by the side of his beloved son, Chris, and his adored grandson, Brian. He is also predeceased by a brother, Bill McDonough and a sister, Rita Boytos. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 10:00 AM from The Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 West Monroe Street in Little Falls where prayer will be offered followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at Holy Family Parish Church, corner of East Main & John Streets in Little Falls with the Rev. Terence Healy officiating assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery, Town of Herkimer. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours at the funeral home on Friday, May 1, 2015 from 5 until 7 PM. Those wishing to donate in memory of Mac are asked to consider Holy Family Parish of Little Falls in lieu of flowers; envelopes are available at the funeral home. The Little Falls Elks Lodge will conduct their ritualistic service at 6:15 PM on Friday evening at the funeral home. Mac's family is being cared for by Harry J. and Kevin E. Enea, Funeral Directors.
