ST. JOHNSVILLE - Mrs. Ruth E. Smith, age 82, of Mill Road in St. Johnsville, NY, passed away following a courageous battle on Monday morning May 11, 2015 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, NY. The family is so very appreciative of Bassett with special mention to the ICU and SCU departments. She was born on September 10, 1932 in Little Falls, NY a daughter of the late Harold and Hazel (Trumbull) Richards and was educated in St. Johnsville schools. Her marriage to James H. Smith took place on July 12, 1952 in St. Johnsville, a loving union of 54 years. Mr. Smith passed away April 29, 2007. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in St. Johnsville. Ruth was an excellent caregiver in the field of childcare to many wonderful children for over 50 years in the St. Johnsville area. At one time she had worked at Daniel Green Shoe Corporation in Dolgeville as well as the Corso Dress Factory in St. Johnsville. Ruth enjoyed latch - hooking and word - find puzzles. Survivors include her children, Keith Smith and wife Patricia of Kingman, Arizona, Carol Warn and husband Gary of St. Johnsville, Roger Smith and friend Marylou Sweet of Arizona, & Gail Kane of Palatine Bridge, her brother, Harris Richards of Sharon Springs, NY, six grandchildren, Bryon Smith and wife Kathy, Mike Warn, Jennifer Wolfkiel and her husband Scott, Kevin Kane and his wife Lisa, Jeremy Kane & Matt Kane and his friend Emma, four great grandchildren, Wyatt & Keith Smith and Skylar and Matt Kane, Jr. and several nieces & nephews and a sister - in - law, Veronica Richards of Dolgeville. She was predeceased by her son - in - law Kevin P. Kane who passed away on January 13, 2013 and her brothers Howard, Harold and Eugene Richards and a sister Alice Crawford. Funeral services will be held on Thursday May 14, 2015 at 11:00 am from the chapel of Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, NY, with Reverend David A. Johnson, Pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of St. Johnsville officiating. Burial will be in St. Johnsville Cemetery. Friends & relatives may call at the funeral home on Wednesday May 13, 2015 from 5-8 pm. All memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, St. Johnsville.
