Obituary of Santo Pileggi

FRANKFORT-SCHUYLER - Santo "Sam" Pileggi, age 80, of Country Meadows Dr., Schuyler, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Valley Health Services, Herkimer, with his wife and family by his side. He was born on May 8, 1935, in Ilion, the son of Joseph and Josephine (Falcone) Pileggi. Sam graduated from Frankfort Schuyler Central School in 1954 and attended Utica College. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the US Army. On July 1, 1979, Sam married Ruth (Treen) Schafer in Frankfort. Mr. Pileggi was employed as a quality product manager at General Electric Co., Utica, for Thirty-five years, retiring in 1991. He was also a consultant at ICC. Sam served as Board President of the former Ilion Hospital and was assessor for the Town of Frankfort. He enjoyed his summers at White Lake and his winters in Florida. Sam also enjoyed golfing, woodworking and winning at the Turning Stone Casino. Surviving family members include his loving wife, Ruth; his children, Linda Smith and her husband, Gary, of Frankfort, Stephen Pileggi and his wife, Nadine, of Wilmington, NC, Helen Todoro and her husband, Joe, of Glenfield, NY, Lori Nicolette and her husband, Doug, of Ilion, and Robert Schafer; twelve grandchildren, Courtney Ireland, Sarah Smith, Justin Smith, Lee Pileggi, Corey Pileggi, Krishel Pileggi, Melissa Kinney, Sara Carter, Jennifer Waldron, Jill McKissick, Amy Hayner and Brandon Nicolette; his brothers, Joseph Pileggi, Jr. and his wife, Marrietta, of Herkimer; his sister, Rosemarie Servello and her husband, Sam, of Frankfort; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Henry Treen and his wife, Eileen, of Boonville, Richard Treen and his wife, Marie, of Herkimer, Cora Mauro, of Long Island, Lizzie Hight and her husband, Gordy, of Frankfort, and Helen Licari and her husband, Jerry, of Frankfort; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents. Funeral services will be held 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home's newly reopened home at 102 West St., Ilion, with Pastor Tom Pileggi, of the Calvary Gospel Church of New York Mills, officiating. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2015, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. prior to the funeral home service at 102 West St., Ilion.
