Obituary of Richard J. King

Fairwell to Richard J. King Richard J. King Richard King, 62, of Herkimer, NY died peacefully in his sleep on May 23, 2015. He was born on December 31, 1952 to Leonard and Emily (Fischer) King of Herkimer. Rick had a big bark, but he didn't bite. Inside his gruff demeanor was a big heart, which was evident to all who took the time to get to know him. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, campfires and cookouts at his property on Pleasant Lake, and leisurely walks along the Mohawk River and the Erie Canal. He retired from the Department of Environmental Conservation and worked out of Old Forge at Alder Island as well as both the Booneville and Herkimer facilities. He is survived by a sister, Jacquelyn (William), Appleton, WI; two brothers, Garry (Leanne), Denton, MT, and Rodney (Pam), Bozeman, MT; two nieces, Amber King, Bozeman, MT, and Jennifer (Jason) Saucier, Hampstead, NC, and two nephews, James (Candace) King, Kansas City, MO and Peter (Holly) King, Bozeman, MT. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Phil Piper, a longtime friend and caregiver, and Valerie Duncan, a friend who frequently accompanied Rick on his walks along the Mohawk. Please join the King/Fischer family and friends to wish Richard King a final farewell. A luncheon will be held at The Herkimer Elks Club on Saturday June 6th, from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Come share in the celebration of Richard's life.
