Obituary of Joseph M. Pileggi

HERKIMER: Joseph M. Pileggi, 83, went home to the lord when he passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Valley Health Services, Herkimer with the love and support of his family by his side. Born in Frankfort on August 10, 1931, Joe was the son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Falcone) Pileggi. Raised and educated locally, he attended Frankfort Schools and a proud veteran of the United States Army he honorably served his country from 1952-1954 during the Korean Conflict. On March 8, 1952 he married the former Marietta Antonucci in Dolgeville; they shared great devotion and true love during their partnership and marriage of 63 years and he held those feelings for her until his very last day. For 32 years, Joe worked as a polisher for Chicago Pneumatic Tools, Utica and after his retirement he entered into a "second career" working as a door attendant, driver and longtime associate for the Enea Family Funeral Home. He very much enjoyed his positions, and more so, Harry, Kevin and staff enjoyed working with him and his loyalty to their business and to the families that he served over the years was immeasurable. At home, Joe was a blessing to his family; a patriarch who provided for the well-being of his loved ones and embraced strong family values. He was affectionately known as Jr. to his family and friends. Honoring his Italian heritage, he loved good food, company and just being surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In his younger days, Joe enjoyed the outdoors and took pride in teaching his sons and nephews how to hunt and fish. He loved boating on the St. Lawrence, water skiing, watching Syracuse football and basketball, playing ice hockey after hours with his sons and their friends at the Clinton Arena, with the stipulation that they would all have to get up for church in the morning and playing street hockey and football on Margaret Street in Herkimer. A very spiritual man, Joe was a very active member of the New Life Church & Ministry Center of Herkimer. For many years he served as an elder of the church, led worship and was very instrumental in the music ministry of the church, playing guitar and singing. At one time, he served as past president for the local chapter for FGBM International. Among those who knew him, Joe was a loving soul and touched the hearts of so many…..he will be sadly missed by all. He is survived by his beloved wife Marietta; his sons and daughter-in-law, Paul Pileggi of Herkimer and Thomas Pileggi and wife Debra of Ilion; his cherished grandchildren, Angela Pileggi, Anthony Pileggi and wife Katie, Michael Pileggi and their mother, Doreen Rocca, Danielle Johnson and husband Kyle and Vanessa Pileggi; his great-grandchildren, Autumn Grace, Casey and George Anthony. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Rose and Sam Servello of Frankfort; his in-laws, Ruth Pileggi of Frankfort, Louis and Nancy Antonucci of Gloversville, Angie and Daniel Perri of Frankfort, Rosemarie and Daniel Parisi of Dolgeville; special aunts, Anna Musella of Dolgeville, Theresa Tamburrino of East Herkimer; an uncle, Ross Pileggi of Florida and many very special nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Santo Pileggi. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 11:00 AM at New Life Church & Ministry Center, 337 Protection Ave., Herkimer, NY and will be officiated by his son, Pastor Tom Pileggi and Pastor David Hayner. Procession will then follow to Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer where he will be laid to rest with full military honors. Family and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the New Life Church & Ministry Center. Those wishing to make a donation in Joe's memory, may consider the New Life Church & Ministry Center; envelopes will be available at the calling hours.
