Obituary of Phyllis T. Curtin

ILION - Mrs. Phyllis T. Curtin, age 75, of Ilion, NY, passed away suddenly with her beloved family at her side on Tuesday June 9, 2015 at Faxton - St. Luke's Healthcare in the town of New Hartford, NY. She was born on April 16, 1940 in Utica, NY a daughter of the late Gifford C. and Edna (Simmons) Timian. Phyllis was a graduate of Sauquoit Valley High School, Class of 1958, and went on to attend college in Oneonta and Plattsburgh, having been the recipient of a Master's degree. Her teaching expertise was evident at Herkimer High School, where she guided and mentored many students and fellow teachers through the years as the Home Economics teacher. She began there in September, 1965. She served as advisor to FHA/HERO where she was honored for displaying a great deal of professionalism and dedication. In 1992 Phyllis was selected as the Regional Home Economics Teacher of the Year. She retired in June of 1995. Her marriage to Daniel M. Curtin took place on July 8, 1961 at St. Patrick's Church in Clayville, NY, a loving and devoted union of nearly 54 years. Phyllis was an exemplary matriarch to her family. She was known to enjoy gardening, canning, cooking and sewing. She is survived by her family, husband Daniel, children, Colleen Curtin and her companion Andrew Duchnycz of New Hartford, Maureen Murray and her husband Martin of Ilion, and Sheila Yang and her husband David of Swampscott, MA, grandchildren, Rachael Duchnycz, Andrea and Kevin Troski, William Murray, Benjamin Murray, Daniel Murray and Summar Thompson, David Yang and Brody Yang, great - grandchildren, Eliza and Iris Murray and Gavin Troski, her brothers Arnold Timian and wife Barbara of Dolgeville, Gifford R. Timian of Sauquoit, and Kenneth Timian and his wife JoAnn of Chambersburg, PA, In - Laws, Beverly Timian, James Curtin and wife Dot, and Suzanne Curtin, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Floyd Timian. Calling hours will be held 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, June 14, 2015, at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road (Town of Frankfort), Ilion, NY. Funeral services will be held 9:45 a.m., Monday, June 15, 2015 at the funeral home, where prayers will be offered as well as a eulogy by Kathy Smith, and 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Paul Catena, Pastor. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Clayville, NY. Her family has planned all funeral and burial arrangements with the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road (Town of Frankfort), Ilion, NY.
