ILION-MOHAWK - Raymond "Ray" L. Hicks, age 74, of W. North St., Ilion, and formerly of Rock Hill Rd., Mohawk, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at the Siegenthaler Hospice Center, New Hartford, with his loving wife, Pat, by his side. He was born on September 17, 1940, in Ilion, the son of Stewart and Mary (Burdick) Hicks. Ray graduated from Annunciation School and Ilion High School. He was employed as an inspector of gun quality control at Remington Arms Co. for forty-three years, retiring in 2002. In 1973, he was married to Patricia DeCarr in Herkimer. Mr. Hicks was a member of the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion, and a former member of the Ilion Moose Lodge where he was active in the children's program. Ray enjoyed traveling with his wife and son. He also enjoyed camping with his family, down hill skiing, cross country skiing, bowling and bicycling. He was an avid photographer and enjoyed doing weddings. Surviving family members include his wife, Pat; his son, Richard Hicks, of CA, and David Deschene, of CA (who was like a son to Ray); his brother, Stewart Hicks and his wife, Winnie, of the Town of Ohio; his sisters, Marjorie Bartiakiac, of Utica, and Sharon Besig and her husband, Paul, of Mohawk; his sisters-in-law, Cathy Jenkins, of Camilus, Deanna Jenkins and her husband, Tom, of Shrewsbury, MA, and several other sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; several nieces and nephews, including a very special nephew, Frank Fox and his wife, Kathy; and several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Mary Conroy and Joanie Hicks; and his brother, Richard Hicks. Funeral services will be held 6:00 p.m., Monday, June 15, 2015, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home's newly reopened home at 102 West St., Ilion, with Deacon Dennis Jones officiating. Interment will be in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion. Calling hours will be Monday, June 15, 2015, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home at 102 West St., Ilion, prior to the funeral home service.
