Obituary of Lido Salarpi

LITTLE FALLS: Mr. Lido Salarpi, a long time Little Falls resident, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2015 at Alpine Nursing Home after a brief illness. He was 86. Born July 10, 1928, he was the husband of Caroline Salarpi, to whom he was married for 63 years. He was the son of Ferrucio and Lelia (Mei) Salarpi, of Massarosa, a village in the Tuscany region of Italy. Mr. Salarpi was born in the United States but moved with his family to their native Italy at age 3. Near the end of World War II in 1945, he returned to settle in Little Falls while still a teenager. He worked for the Melrose Slipper Co. and later for the Allegro Shoe Co., primarily as a leather cutter. He was president of the local labor union for boot and shoe workers in Little Falls for 25 years. One of four siblings, Mr. Salarpi was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was widely known for his gardening skills. For many years he worked as a caterer for the Decarlo-Staffo Veterans Post and later founded the Piccolo Café restaurant along with his wife, Caroline, and daughter, Linda. Mr. Salarpi served as a sergeant in the U. S. Army where he learned commercial cooking. He was stationed in Korea. Throughout his life he enjoyed traveling and visited various regions of Italy during more than a dozen trips. Mr. Salarpi leaves his wife Caroline and a daughter, Linda both of Little Falls. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Stella Gamberdella of Little Falls; a brother, Oriano Salarpi of Italy; and two sisters, Lana and Liviana and their husbands, also of Italy. In addition, he leaves a special nephew David Liscio of Nahant, MA as well as other nephews and nieces in Italy and the states. Family and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 1PM at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe Street, Little Falls, NY (315)823-2424. There are no public calling hours. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer with full military honors. The family is being cared for and guided by Harry J. and Kevin E.
