Obituary of John V. Long

ILION-HERKIMER - John V. Long, age 62, of 315 N. Prospect St., Herkimer, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, NY. He was born on July 28, 1952, in Ilion, the son of George and Frances Long. John was employed at Village of Herkimer Dept. of Public Works. Mr. Long was a veteran of the US Air Force serving during the Vietnam Conflict as a staff sergeant and medical service technician for over thirteen years. He received the Air Force longevity service award with two bronze oak leaf clusters, National defense service medal, Air Force overseas long tour ribbon, and the Air Force good conduct medal with one bronze oak leaf cluster. John enjoyed the arts, including drawing sketches, music and writing. Surviving family members include his brother, George Long, of Nixon, TX; brother-in-law, Victor Hall, of W. Exeter, NY; three nephews, George Long, Jr., of TX, Jim Hall and his wife, Dede, of Bridgewater, and David Hall and his wife, Patricia, of Vernon; two nieces, Kathy Hill and her husband, Dave, of PA, and Belinda Arams and her husband, Paul, of MA; and several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Roberta Hall; and his brother, James Long. A private interment was held at Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion.
