Obituary of Paul Deshaies

HERKIMER - Paul Deshaies, a longtime resident of Herkimer, NY, passed away on Sunday July 26, 2015 at Valley Health Services in Herkimer, NY. He was 89 years old. Born in Ilion, NY on April 14, 1926, Paul was the son of the late Paul and Edouardiana (Tourigny) Deshaies and received his education in schools in Canada. He was veteran of the United States Reserves and National Guard. On March 11, 1950 he married the former Veronica Kroll Sakowski at the Pentecostal Church in Herkimer. She passed away February 16, 1996. He later married Angela Foti who passed away on December 11, 2008. For many years, Paul worked as a carpenter for Remington Arms, Ilion, and after his retirement he enjoyed working as a part - time custodian for the past 17 years with the Herkimer Central School District, a position he currently held. He also worked at one time with Jonell Manufacturing. At home, Paul just loved his companion dog Pumpkin. He loved the children as well, a true loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was known to always be out and about socializing and going out and getting a bite to eat. He was a very active member of the New Life Church & Ministry Center of Herkimer. He is survived by his family, children, Sharon Candella and her husband Richard of Middleville and Paulette Politylo and her husband Thomas of Herkimer, grandchildren, Michelle Rife (Keith) of Pennsylvania, Kristen Candella of Middleville, Christopher Politylo (Kari) of Kingston, NY, and Dr. Bethany Politylo (Mike Akresh) of Massachusets, great-grandchildren, Ashton, Jarred, Devon, and Trenton, and Ariana, Audrey, and Nathan Politylo, his sisters, Florence LePitre (Claude), and Celine Petit (Jean-Guy), and several nieces, nephews, and cousins and two special nieces, Valerie and Becky. He was predeceased by his brothers, Marcel and Claude and a sister Monique. Funeral services will take place on Saturday August 1, 2015 at 10:15 AM from The Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street in Herkimer, NY where prayer will be offered and at 11:00 AM at New Life Church & Ministry Center, 337 Protection Ave., Herkimer, NY. This will be officiated by Pastor David Hayner. Procession will then follow to Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer where he will be laid to rest. Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, July 31 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home on North Washington Street.
