Obituary of Charles L. Weingart

ST. JOHNSVILLE - Mr. Charles L. Weingart, beloved husband, father, and grandfather was surrounded with love at the time of his passing on Saturday morning August 1, 2015 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, NY. He was 86 years old and received wonderful care at Bassett and the family is appreciative of that. Born April 3, 1929 in Torrington, CT, a son of the late Charles and Madeline (Barbaret) Weingart; he was educated in schools in Connecticut. He served our country first with the National Guard, having then been called to active duty during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany with the US Army. His marriage to the former Mary Hassig took place April 20, 1964 in Norfolk, CT. The Weingart's have been residents of Fort Plain since September of 1984, and prior to that lived for 55 years in Harwinton, CT. Throughout his life Mr. Weingart had a passion for farming, and was the owner of the Wingar Farm in Fort Plain. Upon the sale of the farm in 2006, the family moved to St. Johnsville. He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Community. He has also had memberships with the Knights of Columbus, the Litchfield Farm Bureau & 4H, former director of the Canajoharie Milk Co-Op, and worked with the Connecticut artificial breeders prior to his farming career. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 51 years, Mary, his children, Charles Weingart of Queensbury, NY, Thomas Weingart and his wife Laurie of St. Johnsville, Julie Weingart of Gloversville, and Edward Weingart and his wife Elizabeth of Ormond Beach, Florida, his grandchildren, Alyssa and Seth Weingart, Sydney and Tommy Weingart, Michael and Emma Weingart and Anna Jessmer, and two sisters - in - law, Louise Brady and Kay Michna. He was predeceased by his son, Michael Weingart and his sister, Jane Thrall. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday August 4, 2015 at 9:15 AM from The Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center Street in St. Johnsville and at 10:00 AM from Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 115 Reid Street, Fort Plain, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend Al Jupin. Interment will follow with full military honors in Fords Bush Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home on Center Street in St. Johnsville will be on Monday evening, August 3 from 6 until 8 PM. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Charles be considered to the Michael Weingart Scholarship Fund that is currently established through the Fort Plain School System.
