Obituary of Maurice H. Proffitt

I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, fear not, I will help thee. Isaiah 41:13 HERKIMER - Mr. Maurice H. Proffitt, a true gentleman who accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior of whom he faithfully and humbly walked with and served, passed away Saturday evening August 1, 2015. Always at his side was his family that meant the world to him, his loving wife Selma and children. The doctors and nurses of St. Elizabeth's Hospital offered the utmost compassion and care of which the family is very grateful. In loving memory of Maurice H Proffitt, born in Willenhall England on July 10th, 1935. Born to Silas and Lily (Mansfield) Proffitt of Great Britain, he served for 2 years as a medical nurse in the British Army stationed in Egypt and the Suez Canal. Maurice graduated from the Bible College of Wales in Swansea, where he met his wife of 55 years, Selma Proffitt. Maurice and Selma married in Canada in 1960 and moved to the United States through the World Wide Evangelization Headquarters. Maurice served as an assistant Pastor at Glad Tidings Church in Rochester, New York. In 1963, Maurice and Selma moved to Herkimer New York where Maurice worked at Remington Arms for over 35 years. Maurice was an avid reader, talented artist and had a great sense of humor. He and his wife Selma, wrote a weekly religious editorial for The Evening Telegram for over 5 years. Maurice is survived by his wife Selma, his two sons; David Proffitt and his wife, Victoria and their children, Nicholas, Michaela and Marissa of Chesapeake, Virginia, and his son Stephen Proffitt, his wife Ruth and their children, Brooke, Taylor and Desiree of La Plata, Maryland. In addition to his family in the United States, Maurice is survived by several cousins including Roy and his wife Mary Proffitt of Willenhall, England. Besides his deep love for Christ, Maurice was deeply loved by many and will be missed by his family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday August 5, 2015 at 11:00 AM from The Oak Ridge Free Methodist Church, 838 West German Street in Herkimer, NY with the Rev. Chris Schumske officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer. Calling hours AT THE CHURCH will be on Wednesday morning, August 5, one hour prior to the service, 10 until 11 AM.
