Obituary of Rodney Montana

Mr. Rodney Clayton Montana, 68, of 182 Montana Road, a lifelong resident of the town of Oppenheim, died unexpectedly Wednesday August 19th, 2015 at his residence of an apparent heart attack. Rodney was born in Little Falls, on October 17, 1946 the son of the late Clayton and Betty Lou (Young) Montana and was a graduate of the Oppenheim Central School, class of 1964. A veteran of the United States Air Force, Rodney served honorably during the Vietnam conflict, from February 1966, until he was discharged with the rank of Sgt, in December 1969. He served with the 80th SAC (Strategic Air Command) and was discharged from the Air Force base in Plattsburg, New York. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal and the SAEMR Medal. Rodney's career began as a laborer with the Fulton County Highway Department, and currently held the position of Deputy Superintendent of the Department. He was still working and had over 50 years of service to the county. He was united in marriage to Kathleen E. Hammond on October 21, 1967 in the United Methodist Church in Lasselsville. They would have celebrated 48 years of marriage this October. Having a strong Christian Faith, Rodney was a Charter member of the Grace Baptist Church on Van Buren Street in Dolgeville. Presently serving as a councilman for the Town of Oppenheim, and was seeking re-election this fall. His personal interest was in hunting and horseback riding. His warm and gentle smile was evident that he was a kind and gentle man, who Loved His Savior. Rodney was a Loving and Wonderful Husband, Father and Grandfather. He is survived by his wife Kathleen of 47 years, a son Thomas Montana and his companion Reba of Oppenheim, his brothers Gerald C. (Lola) Montana of North Carolina, Timothy R. Montana of Herkimer, his sisters Terry Blanchard of Oppenheim, Cynthia (Suzanne) Brooks of Gloversville, Beverly (John) Bramer of Canajoharie, a very special granddaughter who was "The Apple of his Eye", Karis Montana, several Nieces, Nephews and Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Also included is his Christian family at Grace Baptist Church especially acknowledging the Pastor Len Byerly and his wife Sally. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother Wayne Montana in 2010. Funeral services along with visitation will be held on Saturday morning from 10AM until the time of the services at Noon at the Grace Baptist Church on Van Buren Street, Dolgeville. The services will begin at Noon with the Pastor Rev. Leonard Byerly officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills. Family and friends may call from 10AM until Noon. In lieu of flowers memorials in Rodney's name may be made to the Grace Baptist Church Van Buren Street Dolgeville, NY 13329.
