Obituary of Doris E. Dunham

ILION - Mrs. Doris E. Dunham, age 80, a longtime Ilion resident, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 21, 2015, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by the love and prayers of her husband and children. Doris was born on March 22, 1935, the daughter of the late William and Fannie (Washburn) Hocking. She was raised and educated locally, graduating from West Winfield High School. On January 1, 1955, Doris married the love of her life, Dawes L. Dunham, and the two shared an inseparable union, spanning six decades, filled with love, laughter, devotion and companionship. Family was of the utmost priority throughout Doris' life. She joyfully raised her children and was a doting grandmother and great-grandmother to the generations that followed. Cheerful and kind-hearted by nature, Doris would do anything to help anyone. She enjoyed knitting and puzzle books, helping to keep her mind sharp. She and her husband also thoroughly enjoyed travelling, having made it to 49 out of the 50 states of the United States. Doris was a woman of God, who accepted Jesus Christ as her savior, having attended services at the First Baptist Church of Little Falls. She truly lived to serve Christ, her family, and those that she left on this earth. Survivors include her husband, Dawes L. Dunham, of Ilion; daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Scott "Skip" Stalloch, of Ilion, Jane and John Forbes, of Ilion, Linda and Leo Crim, of Ilion, and Darlene Bawolak, of Little Falls; her son and daughter-in-law, Pastor Dawes J. and Brenda Dunham, of Danville, PA; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She also leaves her brothers and sisters-in-law, Russell and June Hocking, of Ilion and James and Sandra Hocking, of Whitesboro; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Laura Buck. Friends and relatives are invited to attend Doris' Celebration of Life service, which will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home's newly reopened home, at 102 West St., Ilion, with Reverend Chris J. Wintermute, of the First Baptist Church of Little Falls, officiating. Interment will follow in Mohawk Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday evening, August 24, 2015, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the funeral home on 102 West St., Ilion. The family wishes to thank Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. for their kindness and compassion shown to Doris throughout her last days. It is with this in mind, that we ask anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution to consider Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413.
