Obituary of Robert Silvernail

Mr. Robert G. Silvernail, 86, a prominent retired businessman and a former lifelong resident of Dolgeville and Canada Lake, died Friday August 21st, 2015 at the Crown Home in Cortland, New York of natural causes. Bob was born in Utica, on April 4, 1929 the son of the late Glen and Mary (Beard) Silvernail and was a graduate of Dolgeville High School. He continued his education by graduating from Albany Business College, which furthered his opportunities in the family business, Silvernail Coal Company. Bob then served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged with the rank of PFC. Upon returning from the service he took over the family business and operated it until his retirement in 1990. Bob was first married to Alice Komorny on November 28, 1959 in St. Anthony's Church in Johnstown. They celebrated 38 years of marriage, prior to her death on June 9, 1998. In August of 2003 Bob was united in marriage to Joan Marie (Sloan) Earl, and they both enjoyed wintering in Colorado, and spending summers at Canada Lake. His affiliations included the Dolgeville Masonic Lodge, 60 year member, former President of Dolgeville Civic Club, the Rotary Club of Dolgeville, a member of the Penguin Snowmobile Club, the Nick Stoner Golf Club of Caroga Lake, and The Presbyterian Church. He personally enjoyed playing the banjo, and would entertain at several social gatherings. Bob was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and was very proud of his family and their accomplishments. He is survived by his wife Joan of Colorado, his son and his family Robert W. and Lauren Silvernail and their children Molly and Nicholas of Newport Beach, CA, and his daughter and her husband Mary Anne and Edwin Woods and their children Alice and Lillian. Funeral services will be held Friday August 28th, 2015 at 11Am at the United Lutheran-Presbyterian Parrish on Faville Avenue Dolgeville. Rev. Betsy Jay, Chaplin from Bassett Medical Center will officiate. Burial will follow with Military Honors in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There are No Calling Hours.
