Obituary of Michael D. McKeon

LITTLE FALLS: Michael D. "Flea" McKeon, 59, joined his parents in heaven August 31, 2015 to cheer while the Red Sox beat the Yankees. Michael had his loving family by his side when he finally lost his courageous battle with cancer. Michael was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Mary (Murray) and Norman Craig and Mark F. McKeon. Michael moved with his family to Little Falls in 1969 but went back to Boston in 1982 where he spent his career as a Park Ranger for the Boston Historical Park Service, he was extremely proud of his work there. After taking an early retirement due to his continued vision loss, Michael decided to move back to Little Falls in 1999 to be closer to his family. He enjoyed playing sports, having played on soft ball leagues while living in Boston and especially enjoyed golfing and swimming. He loved being in the presence of his large family and many friends. You could rarely stop by Michael's house on a weekend when there wasn't a pool party going on. An avid sports fan, Michael especially loved his Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. Never forgetting his Boston heritage, he would route for any home town team. Michael is survived by a brother, Mark "Marty" McKeon, and his four sisters, Kathleen McKeon, Mary McKeon, Janice McKeon (Ron Sekel), and Anne McKeon, all of Little Falls; a step-brother, Alfie Weckesser, of Largo, FL; 5 nieces who he treated as daughters, Kim (Robert) Brand, Kelly Caracane, Elizabeth McKeon (Mike Petrie), Tiffany Lawrence (Brandon Rickard) all of Little Falls and Holly Lawrence (Nick Salamone) of Connecticut; 8 grandnieces and nephews, Riley, Lorenzo, Madison, Olivia, Abigail, Dominik, Julian and Adalynn. Michael was blessed in life to have some great friends who also survive him, especially, Chiller, Jeff, Carla and Ricky but especially Rick Scalise of Little Falls who helped Michael's family provide his care as his disease got the best of him and defined the definition of a true friend. Michael was predeceased by his parents, his step-mother, Guila Craig and his beloved canine, Chewey, who provided him with constant companionship for 12 years. The family would like to thank the staff on the third floor of Little Falls Hospital who provided Michael with supreme care and showed endless compassion to his family and friends. Kindly consider donations in Michael's name to the Herkimer County Humane Society or the National Federation of the Blind; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Michael's Funeral Service will take place on Saturday. September 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Albany Street, Little Falls with The Rev. Dr. Steven Scarcia, Rector officiating. Procession will then follow to Church Street Cemetery, Little Falls, where interment will take place. Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, September 4, 2015 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe Street, Little Falls (315) 823-2424.
