MOHAWK: Frederick K. "Fred" Markwardt, 78, a lifelong Town of German Flatts resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 4, 2015 at Folts Home for Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Herkimer, with the love and support of his family. Born in the Town of German Flatts on November 26, 1936, Fred was the son of the late Louis and Clara (Mower) Markwardt. Raised and educated locally he was a graduate of Mohawk High School. On March 27, 1992 he married the former Katherine VanAllen with whom he shared a great devotion and true love during their partnership and marriage of 23 years. Fred was known to many as the owner and operator of The Print Shop in Mohawk. Holding a commitment to his community, he was very active in the Mohawk Community Club, was a member of the New York State Muzzleloading Association, currently held the position of councilman for the Town of German Flatts for over 20 years and also Deputy Supervisor at times. He was very involved with the Friends of the German Flatts Town Park and a part of their planning committee. Fred also was a Member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk. Fred always had a smile on his face and laughter in his heart which he conveyed to everyone who shared conversation with him. In his leisure time, he loved farming, photography, hunting and fishing. A caring husband, father, grandfather and friend, he enjoyed spending time with his loved ones and that is what he treasured most. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife Katherine (Kathe); his children, Frederick (Kim) Markwardt of Jordan, NY, Karl (Sharon) Markwardt of Fultonville, Andrew (Holly) Markwardt of Mohawk, Joseph (Schelli) Servidone of Herkimer, Robert (Liz) Servidone of Little Falls, Jean (Scott) Rockwell of Little Falls and Sarah (David) Cole of Ilion; as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousin, in-laws and special friends. He was predeceased by a brother, Edward Markwardt. Family and friends may pay their respects at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, NY (Town of Frankfort) on Monday, September 7, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. His funeral will commence on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 9:15 AM from the funeral home where prayers will be offered and at 10:00 AM from Blessed Sacrament Church, 54 E. Main St., Mohawk where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Mark Reilly, assisted by Sister Mary Jo Tallman, Parish Life Director. Procession will follow to Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills where he will be laid to rest.
