Obituary of Brian J. Carney

HERKIMER – Mr. Brian J. Carney, Sr. passed away on Friday, September 25, 2015 at his home in Herkimer. His family was with him at the time. He was 73 years old. He was born on March 4, 1942 in Frankfort, NY, a son to the late John “Jack” and Ann (Nicastro) Carney and was a Frankfort High School Graduate, Class of 1960. He lived his entire life in our area. He married his wife of 34 years Madeline Laurer on September 26, 1981 in Ilion. Together the couple attended St. Francis de Sales Church in Herkimer. Brian had worked at an early age on the Nicastro Farm as well as Riverside Dairy. He went on to work for 16 years with Remington Arms. Brian successfully owned and operated Brian’s Roastbeef Deli in Herkimer on North Main Street for many years. He was hardworking and dedicated himself to his business and his customers. Brian truly had a sense of humor like no other. He loved gardening and family vacations, especially to Old Forge. He also found great pleasure watching football. He had a special bond with all of his family and was proud to have raised his grandson Eric. His is survived by his wife, Madeline, his children, Christopher Carney of Frankfort, Dana Carney-Madigan (Paul, Jr.) of Ilion, Carlene Carney – Black of Rochester, NY, Crystal Carney of Herkimer, Brian J. Carney, Jr., of Frankfort, and Tammy Carney of Frankfort, his step – daughter, Melinda Mroz (Matthew) of Pennsylvania, his grandchildren, Christopher Carney, Christopher Black, Kyle Madigan, Cameron Madigan, Eric Carney, Nyla Bennett, Honor Bennett, Dawson Carney, and Blake Spoor, his brothers, John Carney (Pat) of Ilion, and Joe Carney (Joan) of Little Falls, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends and In-Laws, Wendy Rizzo (Dan) and Diane Carey (Dean). Funeral services will be held on Tuesday September 29, 2015 at 9:00 AM at The Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion, NY (town of Frankfort) and at 10:00 AM at St. Francis de Sales Church, North Bellinger Street in Herkimer. The Very Reverend Mark Cunningham will officiate the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours for Brian on Monday September 28 from 4 until 8 PM at The Enea Family Funeral Home. The family is assisted by Funeral Directors Harry J. & Kevin E. Enea (315) 894-8000. A very special thank you is extended to Hospice for their care and compassion during this very trying time.
