Obituary of Mary Susan Timperlake

ILION: Ms. Mary Susan Timperlake, age 52, currently of Ilion, and formerly of Midway, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, September 24, 2015, at the Siegenthaler Center, surrounded by the comfort of her family at her bedside. Born on July 23, 1963, in Oxford, NY, Mary is the daughter of Sun Y. (Cho) Timperlake and Peter Andrew Timperlake. Raised in Ilion, she was a graduate of Ilion Jr./Sr. High School with the Class of 1981. Upon graduation, Mary furthered her education at Herkimer County Community College where she earned an Associate’s Degree in Travel and Tourism. Mary’s career in the airline industry spanned over 30 years. She began her employment as a reservation specialist with Empire Airlines in Oriskany and through a series of mergers, relocated to Winston-Salem, NC, where she was currently employed by U.S. Airways/American Airlines. An easy going and fun loving woman, Mary loved her time spent with family and friends and she especially loved the holidays. She also loved spending time with her nephew, Robert, especially their walks in the woods and playing golf together. She was a true people person and a kind soul who always put others before herself. She thoroughly enjoyed travel, and took advantage of her position in the airline industry to take many trips throughout the world. She was an avid reader and sports fan, the constant supporter of both NASCAR and Syracuse Men’s Basketball. Mary will be dearly missed by those she leaves behind. She is survived by her parents, Sunya Timperlake and her fiancée, William Szablak of Ilion and Peter Andrew Timperlake and his wife, Nancy, of Oxford; her sister and best friend, Janet Brown and her husband, James of Mohawk; her beloved nephew, Robert H. Brown, also of Mohawk; and her half-brother, Andrew Timperlake. Her memory will live on in the hearts of many dear friends she made throughout her life, especially Patricia Moynihan, Beverley Sweeney and Pamela Marsh. She was predeceased by her fiancée, Jimmy Tolbert. Friends and relatives are invited to attend visitation on Sunday, September 27, 2015 from 1:00PM to 3:00PM at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s newly reopened home at 102 West, St. Ilion. Heiligman, Priest-In-Charge, of Grace Episcopal Church of Mohawk, officiating. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion. The family would like to extend gratitude to the healthcare team at the Siegenthaler Center for their compassion and care shown to Mary in her last days. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, 9 E. Main St., Mohawk, NY 13407, or The Siegenthaler Hospice Center 4277 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, NY 13413. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
