SCHUYLER - John M. Hillman, 84, of Schuyler, passed away on October 9, 2015, at his home, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. John was born on June 8, 1931, in Roosevelt, NY, to the late John “Max” and Frances Hillman. As a teenager, he worked with his father learning the brick laying trade. A short time later he moved onto aviation and then was self-employed in the home contracting business. During his later years, he found his niche in the real estate business. John is survived by his beloved wife Carolyn; one daughter and son-in-law: Penny and Charles May of CO; five sons and daughters-in-law from his marriage to Joan Wheeler, Douglas and Andrea of SC, Richard and Aimee of Syracuse, Michael and Patricia of Newport, John and Lori of MI and William and Tina of TN; one stepson and his wife, Michael and Noell Williams of Plattsburgh; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Irene, of East Islip and one sister-in-law, Fran Hillman of DeRuyter. He was predeceased by one brother, Douglas. John enjoyed meeting people and immediately connected to them because he was always prepared for an engaging conversation. This attribute enabled him to easily make many lifetime friends. His ability to recall events and exact details left an imprint on us all.
