Obituary of Bernice Marleah Flood

Mrs. Bernice M. "Bunnie"(Darrow) Flood, 89, a lifelong resident of Dolgeville, passed away at home on, Wednesday, November 11, 2015. Bernice was born on July 10, 1926 in Little Falls, the daughter of Dolgeville Police Chief, Daniel Darrow and Leta Hays Darrow. She was a graduate of Dolgeville Central School, class of 1946 and furthered her education by attending SUNY at Oneonta. Her father died while in college and she returned home to work at the Daniel Green Company and Allegro Shoe factories to help support the family. She met her husband of 55 years, Henry while working at Allegro Shoe and they were married on April 23, 1961 in the Dolgeville Presbyterian Church. Bunnie was a well known sports enthusiast. For many years she played and coached in the New York State Women's Softball League. Starting with the Red Caps and then, NYS Championship team, the Mohigans of Dolgeville. She later coached for several teams including, team UNIVAC. In addition her bowling days were legendary in both Dolgeville and Canajoharie Bowling Leagues, and counted her Youker Insurance teammates as lifelong friends. Later, golf became her sport of choice, winning several tournaments and was a member of the Women's League at Little Falls Golf Club. Bunnie was also one of the first Soccer Coaches at Dolgeville Central School. She was an avid swimmer and member of the Water Lilies Swim Club at the Little Falls YMCA. For years she enjoyed playing pinochle with her many friends, including her Mother, with the Hi-Lo Card Club of Dolgeville. Bernice was active in the community, a member of both the former Dolgeville VFW and the American Legion. She was attending the Dolgeville Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband Henry, a son Matthew of New York City, two Nephews whom she considered as sons Jerome Paul of Utica, and John Paul of Schenectady, a sister in law Doris Darrow of Massachusetts and her sons Daniel Darrow of St. Louis and Allan Darrow Jr. of Hong Kong, a Niece Brianna Paul Diamante and her daughters Ava and Violet of Penn., as well as Jonathan Paul Jr. of Scotia. Many cousins including, George & Marjorie Brown of Florida, Florence Senif of West Winfield and Ralph Pye of Maryland, NY. She also leaves Ruth Brownell of Utica, whom she has considered as her sister, and long time friends Jennie Ciccerelli, Beverly Darling, Mary Petkovsek, Annie Tripodi and Edna Sidoran. She was predeceased by a Sister Jean Darrow Paul Agne and a bother Allan Darrow. Bunnie was well known throughout the Mohawk Valley and the family would like to acknowledge all of those who continued to call out her name in stores and restaurants and watched over her as she rode her "Red Scooter" through the streets of Dolgeville. The family would also like to thank Mary Tubia & Sandy Tubia of Trusted Friends Home Care for the unwavering care and support, and to Hospice and Palliative Care nurses, Judy, Elana, Ann, Nadine, Jennifer and Melissa for their outstanding compassionate care. Funeral services and the celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday November 17th, 2015 at 11:00Am at the Dolgeville United Methodist Church, 21 North Helmer Avenue. Rev. Jack A. Ford, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in the Salisbury Rural Cemetery. There are No Calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to, The Bernice M.
