Obituary of Joseph P. Mento, Jr.

ST. JOHNSVILLE – Mr. Joseph P. Mento, Jr., age 84, of 7695 State Highway 5, St. Johnsville, NY, passed away suddenly on November 4, 2015 at the Connecticut Veteran’s Medical Center, West Haven Campus. He was born on July 29, 1931 in Little Falls, a son to the late Joseph P., Sr. and Lucille (Lamanna) Mento. He was educated in Little Falls schools. He was inducted into the United States Army on May 9, 1951 and served our country overseas. He was a Korean War Combat Veteran. He was transferred to the Army Reserve on April 19, 1953. His service to our country was completed March 21, 1957 upon receipt of his honorable discharge. He retired from Conrail, Fonda, New York, where he gained employment for many years as a rail-worker. He was of the Catholic faith. Joe was active with the St. Johnsville Senior Center and enjoyed Thanksgivings spent at the Benefit Club. He was an avid poetry writer, played the organ, and enjoyed being outdoors. He also enjoyed woodworking as well as electronics. Most recently he made many friends with the Hospice support group in Amsterdam, where he uplifted many. He is survived by his loving daughter Kathleen and her husband Tom Yager of Fort Plain and their family (Joe’s grandchildren), Amy and companion Will and Richard and his wife Katie and Joe’s great-grandchildren, Caleb and Emily. He was predeceased by his sister Phyllis and a brother John. Calling hours from 11:00 AM until 1:30 P.M. and a veteran service at 1:30 P.M. will be held at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center Street in St. Johnsville, NY on Saturday November 21, 2015, with Deacon James Bower, officiating. Assisting in the planning are funeral directors John Lewandowski and Harry & Kevin Enea (518) 568-2300.
