Obituary of Douglas B. "Papa Doug" Haman, Sr.

FRANKFORT: Mr. Douglas B. “Papa Doug” Haman, Sr., 69, of the Town of Frankfort, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2015 with the love and support of his dedicated family by his bedside. Born on March 13, 1946, Doug was the son of the late Arnold W. and Doris C. (Kane) Haman. He was raised and educated in Frankfort, graduating as salutatorian from Frankfort-Schuyler High School in 1963. At one time, Doug shared in a marriage with the late Shirley Goodhines, a relationship from which came two beloved children. On July 3, 1981, Doug was wed to the love of his life, the former Judy Moreau. They held an insatiable bond and were truly an inspirational couple who encompassed true love. They blended their family in a way that was both beautiful and admirable. The steadfast support and commitment that Judy gave to her husband throughout his illness was incredible. Right up until his very last days, the love that Doug had for his wife was visible in his eyes and smile. A proud veteran, Doug served in the United States Army Reserves as a Drill Sergeant. He took great pride in the service he gave to his country. A master carpenter by trade, Doug earned recognition this past summer as a fifty-year member of the Carpenter’s Union. Hardworking to his very core, he spent the majority of his life working his family farm and, without complaint, gave of himself every day to support his beloved family. Doug was a truly amazing husband, father and grandfather. Selfless, giving and big-hearted in nature, he made everyone he met feel loved and like they were his own family. He was their rock and foundation, unwavering in his commitments, and through his example he instilled these same values to his children. A loving, kind, gentle giant of a man, he had a light in his eyes and a smile that made you feel like you were the only person in the room. On November 14, 2015, Doug’s family held a benefit for him as he was undergoing his medical treatments. Even though Doug was weak, tired, and very ill, he mustered the strength to attend the event where he was truly humbled by the outpouring of love from those who were there. The energy felt in the room when Doug came through the door was a true testament to the impact he made while on this earth. Doug passes on a legacy of love to be carried forth by his beloved family. He leaves his wife, Judy, of over 34 years; his children and their spouses, Douglas “Doug” Haman, Jr., Theresa “Terri” and Stephen Gauthier, Emil and Sharon Streeter, Kim and John Borek, Sr., and William “Billy” Jr. and Lisa Streeter. Always close to Doug’s heart was the memory of his son, Scott W. Streeter, who passed away on March 3, 2013. He also leaves his daughter-in-law, Carla Streeter; grandchildren, Ashlee and Hank Penree, John Borek, Jr., Victoria Streeter, Patrick Borek, Kali Streeter, Alexis Streeter, Joseph Streeter, Luke Gauthier, Graham Gauthier, and Hailee Streeter; his great-grandchildren, Ava and Bo Penree; his sister, Arlene Gross, his in-laws, Nancy and Bart Butts, and Chris and Paul Whitaker, his uncle Lloyd Gallup, his cousins, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and son, Scott, Doug was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Donald Gross, and his cousin and best friend, Lawrence “Punk” Kane. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 from 4 to 8 PM at the Enea family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road (Town of Frankfort) Ilion, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doug’s memory can be made to a charity of one’s choice. Doug’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will take place on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at 11 AM at the Enea Family Funeral Home with full military honors to follow. Burial will take place in Frankfort Center Cemetery at the convenience of the family, where he will be laid to rest beside his parents. Sincere gratitude is extended to everyone who helped to make Doug’s benefit a beautiful success, and participated in giving him that one last gift of having all of his loved ones together with him. The family wishes to make special mention of the care provided to Doug by his devoted daughter-in-law, Lisa, as he was made comfortable during the last days of his life’s journey. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Martin L. Ciaccia, and Harry J. and Kevin E. Enea, Funeral Directors. Those wishing to add to Doug’s online memorial may do so at www.eneafamily.com
