Mrs. Catherine (Katie) D. VanNort, of Ilion, passed away at the age of 73 on Monday, December 14, 2015 at Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, Ilion. She was born on April 16, 1942 in Ilion, a daughter to the late Earl and Helena (Johns) Emrich and was educated in Ilion schools. Her marriage to George Calvin VanNort took place October 18, 1958 in the Ilion United Methodist Church. He passed away on February 11, 2005. She was a waitress for 43 years at several Valley restaurants, retiring in 2002 having last worked at Empire Diner in Herkimer. She is survived by her children, all who live in Ilion, Keith VanNort and his wife Anna, Debra VanNort and Leslie VanNort, her grandchildren, David VanNort and his fiancé Heather Kupris of Brookfield and Beth VanNort and her partner Steve Johnson of Ilion, great-grandchildren, Cody, Mathew, Gabriel, and Jacob VanNort and Conner and Jordan DiBrango all of Brookfield and Ahrielle and Ariana Ellis of Ilion, her brothers and sister-in-law, William, John and Eugene and his wife Elaine Emrich, a brother-in-law, Raymond Hendrie, and sisters-in-law, Jane Johnson and Pauline VanNort, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents and husband as well as an infant son, Kevin Charles, brothers Earl Emrich and Alan Emrich, sisters June Loring, Lois Hendrie and Donna Conlin, Inlaws, Lloyd VanNort, Albert Loring, Thomas Conlin and Locklin Johnson, and Florence and Michael Staffo and Kathleen and Bruce Bulkley. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Harry J. & Kevin E. Enea of the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion (Town of Frankfort), NY (315) 894-8000. Family and friends may pay their respects at the funeral home on Thursday, December 17, 2015 from 4:00-7:00 PM. Her funeral service will commence immediately following calling hours at 7:00 PM at the funeral home, with Rev. Robert Wollaber officiating.
