Obituary of David "Dave" A. Gay

David “Dave” A. Gay, age 62, formerly of Herkimer and Town of Columbia, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 13, 2015, at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown. He was born on March 12, 1953, in Herkimer, the son of Ernest and Doris (Dunham) Gay, and graduated from Richfield Springs High School in 1972. Dave was employed at the Town of Herkimer Highway Dept. for over 20 years. Mr. Gay was a lover of antiques, collectables and older cars. Surviving family members include his mother, Doris Gay, of Richfield Springs; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce and Don Urtz, of Richfield Springs, and Karen and William Schorer, of Millers Mills; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Ernest Gay. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m., Thursday, December 17, 2015, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s newly reopened and renovated home at 102 West St., Ilion, with Rev. Roger Smith officiating. Interment will be in Millers Mills Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 17, 2015, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. just prior to the funeral home service at 102 West St., Ilion. The family wishes to thank the staffs at Alpine Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and Bassett Medical Center for their loving care and compassion.
