Obituary of Gladys L. DeLuis

Mrs. Gladys L. (Provinski) DeLuis, age 91, of Little Falls, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 17, 2016, at the Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown. Born on January 25, 1924, Gladys was the daughter of the late John and Antonia (Aniol) Provinski. She was raised and educated in Little Falls, graduating from Little Falls High School with the Class of 1941. On June 28, 1947 she was wed to Vincent Dominic “Jim” DeLuis at Sacred Heart Church in Little Falls by Father Batkiewicz. The couple shared in a blessed union of almost sixty years, until Jim’s passing on June 20, 2006. Gladys was truly a kind and compassionate woman and her gentle soul was always focused on the well being of her family. When her girls were younger, she served as a Brownie Leader for their Girl Scout troops. As her family grew, she found joy in the blessings of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As an admirer of nature, Gladys found beauty in the simple joys of every season and had a passion for gardening and flowers. Her fondness for animals was evident in the many loyal family pets she cared for throughout the years. She leaves a legacy of love to her daughters, Loretta Welyczko of Ilion, Nancy DeLuis of Herkimer and MaryLou DeLuis Reid of Saranac Lake; her grandchildren, Justin Welyczko and his wife, Andrea, Gregory DeLuis and Ashley Contampasis, Rosalie Reid and her partner, Matt Ferrell and Teresa Reid; and her great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Gregory, Blaise and Juniper. She also leaves several in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two sisters, Mary and Louise and by her brother, John. In keeping with Gladys’ wishes, her family will bid their farewells in a private gathering. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Herkimer. Those wishing to make memorial contributions in Gladys’ memory are asked to consider H.A.L.O. (Helping Animals Live Organization) 615 Albany Street, Little Falls, NY 13365.
