Mr. Allen J. Born, age 69, of Herkimer, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, peacefully in his home with his loving and devoted family at his side. His birth took place January 21, 1946 in Ilion, NY a son to the late John and Izelda (Turk) Born. He was a graduate of Sauquoit Valley School. His military career spanned over 34 years with the Army and National Guard, a proud decorated veteran of Vietnam and Desert Storm. His marriage to the former Donna M. Violet took place in 1982 at the First Baptist Church in Herkimer, with Rev. David Kirkpatrick officiating. Allen's work career centered around his highly skilled knowledge of all forms of machinery maintenance and preventative maintenance activities. He was last employed with Hyosung USA, Utica Plant. He constantly exhibited the deepest love for his family and especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his beloved wife, Donna, his children, Amy Romer and her husband Earl of Ilion, Kenneth Scanlon and his wife Angel of Herkimer, Shawn Scanlon and his wife Koren of Herkimer, Teddy Scanlon and his wife Kristin of Utica, and Carey Scanlon of Herkimer, his grandchildren, Eric, Jared, Isaiah, Riley, Alyssa, Brendon, Brielle, Natalie, Colin, Arriana, Lucas, Elijah, and Clare, his brothers, David and Sam Guido, his sister-in-law, Lorraine Madison and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Dennis Born, Skip Born and Teddy Born. Allen's family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00PM – 9:00PM on Friday, January 22, 2016 at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer, NY, (315) 866-1011. His funeral service and Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2016, commencing at 11:00AM from the funeral home. Procession will then follow to St. Mary's Cemetery, Town of Herkimer, where he will be laid to rest with full military honors accorded. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Harry J. & Kevin E.
